Strategic Aim

As public conversations about the Baity Street Development Project continue, the developer team, in partnership with the City of Winston-Salem and Wake Forest University, announced conceptual plans and images for “The Grounds,” as the Baity Street development will be known.

“By creating a dynamic place that blends residential, commercial, athletic stadiums, and welcoming public gathering spaces, we are reimagining the University’s role as a community partner,” said Wake Forest University President Susan R. Wente. “This development will enhance the student experience, attract new talent and contribute to the city’s overall vitality. We believe The Grounds will create a common ground for all.”

This significant initiative—which includes leveraging best-in-class partners and boosting the local economy during the construction phase and beyond—supports Wake Forest University’s commitment to fostering a Community of Partnerships (Thematic Goal 3) and reinforcing its role as a leading collaborator in Winston-Salem’s economic development (Aim 3.3). The vision for the development is to create a mix of commercial and residential spaces designed to benefit and welcome Winston-Salem residents, the University, visitors, and the entire region. The new district will elevate the entertainment and athletic event attendee experience, but also be active year-round with new dining, shopping, and recreational offerings.
