College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences shares Strategic Framework

Strategic Aim
The College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences have released their unit-level strategic framework, developed to align with the vision and priorities articulated in Framing Our Future.
As the academic heart of the University—home to 30 departments, more than a dozen interdisciplinary programs, and nearly 500 teacher-scholars—the College and GSAS embarked on a collaborative process to reflect on their shared mission and chart a path forward. Following the release of Framing Our Future in fall 2023, the Office of the Dean convened faculty leadership from across the College and GSAS for a full-day retreat in January 2024. More than 60 participants, including department chairs, associate deans, program directors, committee chairs, and collegiate senators, engaged deeply with the University’s three thematic goals and explored how they could be translated into the context of the liberal arts and graduate education.
This work affirmed the distinctive strengths of the College/GSAS as a unified academic ecosystem—one that embraces the teacher-scholar model, champions transformational teaching, advances impactful research and creative work, and nurtures graduate and undergraduate students alike through high-touch mentoring and meaningful academic experiences. The resulting framework identifies key opportunities for innovation, partnership, and organizational excellence as the College/GSAS continue to strengthen their role as a pedagogical and intellectual hub of Wake Forest.
Organized around the three thematic goals of Framing Our Future—Community of Learning, Community of Inquiry, and Community of Partnerships—and supported by a fourth goal focused on Organizational Excellence and Continuous Improvement, this framework outlines strategic directions and initial action steps designed to support faculty, enrich the student experience, cultivate interdisciplinary collaboration, and expand the reach and impact of research, scholarship, and creative activity.
